The Issues At Hand

Making a Difference

Safety

Safety is the most basic need. If a person is not safe, they will struggle to focus on anything else. Ensuring that, when the students, the teachers, the staff, and the administration come to our campuses are secure in their person, must be our highest priority.

How do we do this? Getting back to the basics:

  • While counseling is important, there also needs to be consequences for students when they break school rules.

  • Re-implement a robust school resource officer program.

  • More police patrols around the schools.

  • A qualified and highly-trained security staff who understand the dynamics of our community and our residents.

  • Harder to access campuses  which, in turn, equates to our students being harder to access.

  • Encourage, and protect, open and civil discourse.

  • Ensure the rights of the students, teachers, staff, and administration are protected.

Education

Well-rounded education with opportunities for excellence for all students. Our schools need to support students where they are and help them rise to their highest abilities, whatever that may be. We do this by:

  • Keeping the honors programs.

  • Smaller class sizes.

  • Bring back Culver Park.

  • Focusing on teaching children how to think, not what to think.

Maintenance and Cleanliness of Campuses

CCSUD has not renovated our campuses since 2002, and it shows. An independent auditor ranked CCHS overall with a C+. We can do better than that, and we must.

What do we do:

  • Tour the campuses, talk to our maintenance staff, find out what needs to be done, create a prioritized list, and allocate money for the projects.

  • When making the budget for the school year, allot an appropriate amount of money for maintenance and cleaning. (Currently, there is less than $150,000 put aside for maintenance of all seven campuses.)

  • Install more trash cans around the campuses.

  • Hire enough maintenance and janitorial staff to keep all campuses clean and maintained.

  • Keep the bathrooms adequately stocked with soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
